This December a cohort of approximately 35 Australian students and teachers will join forces with Bentley Music Academy and the wider music community in one of musical theatre’s most famous works, EVITA, written by the duo Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

Meeting for the first time on the 4th December, approximately 90 instrumentalists, dancers, and singers have just 12 days to put together four semi-staged concert performances at KL Performing Arts Centre.

The original idea comes from Kevin Field, BMA’s Director of Academic and Artistic Development who invited Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) back in 2018 for a collaborative performance of The Mikado, followed by another combined event in 2020 of CHESS – the musical, just before the pandemic hit.

The 62-strong KLPAC Symphonic Band, dressed in their fav costumes, will be serving up an array of freaky and eerie tunes under the baton of Cheryl Mah as well as esteemed guest conductors Kevin Field and Dr. Low Chee Meng.

Halloween Hantu Ball 2 will feature tunes from movies & musicals as well as some haunting classics such as Dance of the Knights from Romeo and Juliet, Unquiet Spirits, Oodles of Noodles, Tanz der Vampire (Dance of the Vampires), Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, The Night Before Christmas and more!

Join in the fun and come dressed in your fav costumes!

PORTRAITS IN ABSENTIA – OPEN CALL

Ahead of TCX’s upcoming festival, PORTRAITS OF HOPE, we are inviting video artists to submit their portfolio in the application of a reimagining of Jocelyn Pook’s work, ‘Portraits in Absentia.’

The works will form the heart of the festival which itself will offer a platform for new performers to meet with new opportunities under the mentorship of established performance artists, who themselves combine a national perspective with international pedigree.

Five new video artists will be selected to each create one of the film’s movements that together will form Pook’s emotive and thought provoking sound world.

Email info@theculture.exchange to submit your details by Friday 29th December 2023.

Terms available on request.

TCC meets (almost!) every Sunday from 1.30pm to 4.30pm +8 UTC and can be accessed as an Observer or Participant, both as a physical lesson or online.

For registration and further information please email the host venue, Bentley Music Academy on admin@bma.com.my who will look after your enquiry for the upcoming season.
